Top Quality Dog Food announced on Thursday, Aug. 26, that it is recalling "Beef HVM” one-pound packages that were distributed through mail order and direct delivery between Tuesday, July 27 and Monday, Aug. 2.

The products were distributed in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania and South Carolina.

Top Quality Dog Food said the products are marked with the lot #071521 on the bottom right corner of the label.

The company said no illnesses have been reported so far in connection with the recalled products.

"Salmonella, Listeria, can affect animals eating the product and there is risk to humans handling contaminated products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products," the company said.

Top Quality Dog Food said it has discontinued distribution of the remaining products in that batch, and the company is investigating what caused the contamination.

Customers who received the products have been contacted.

Those who purchased the recalled products are urged to dispose of them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.
